Weeknight Winter Supper

Washington, DC starts to shut down the day before a pending storm is to hit. There is a run on supermarkets, liquor stores and just about everywhere else. When the first storm was supposed to hit during the raging pandemic, there was a sense of calm. Everyone is very familiar with being stuck at home, the refrigerator is full, the bar is stocked. What is a few inches of snow compared to the 10 months prior?

We decided to get some casual cold weather dinner for our bubble and settle in for the storm. Here is what we made:

Mini Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs

Don’t judge. Sometimes a tasty snack that reminds you of growing up can be a delicious party treat. I buy high quality mini hotdogs and wrap them in thickly-sliced hickory smoked bacon from the butcher, and they are always the first to go. I am a big fan of “Fork in the Road” min dogs…

Tzatziki with Fresh Herbs

There are so many variations of tzatziki sauce it is hard to keep up with.  I like a very robust and rich sauce.  It is important to make at least 4 hours ahead to ensure all the flavors blend together.  This is great to make and just have in the refrigerator for a quick snack…

Roasted Tomato, Herbed & Parmesan Soup with Cheddar Croutons

This is best served with our world famous Borough Market Toasted Cheese Sandwich.  The classic mix of this soup and sandwich make for a great lunch on a cold day. Ingredients  4 Pounds of Roma tomatoes 1 tablespoon of chimichurri rub 1/2 cup freshly ground parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon olive oil with two tablespoons of…

Cheddar & Jalapeño Biscuits

We love a tasty biscuit, and like everything, there are thousands of recipes – we use several of them. These biscuits pack a spicy mix, and are quick to make. You can also make some amazing biscuit sandwich like this breakfast bacon biscuit. Ingredients 2 cups White Lily self-rising flour 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt…

Shrimp Curry and Couscous

When we are having a work lunch on Capitol Hill or a beach BBQ down in South Carolina, we always try to weave shrimp into m any of the menus. I favor fresh shrimp which are plentiful in Charleston but in DC there are hard to find. It’s best to go to a seafood store…

Skillet Roasted Chicken Thighs

Chicken thighs are often overlooked as everyone is usually clamoring for skinless chicken breasts, which are also very tasty but you have to go back to the delicious crispy thigh that has some heat marinated into the meat. This is an easy, fast and inexpensive dish.  Be sure to cook it just before your guests arrive…

Cookies & Cabernet during the Covid-19 Pandemic

I am a big believer in good cookies to end a dinner – and I mean very good cookies. Recently, I found a greater purpose for these tasty treats. When the lock-downs started to roll through the United States, it was tough to keep in touch with people beyond never-ending mass text chains. If I…

I love that your meals have a nice mix of solids to saucy! And the photography forces me to leave drool markings on some posts! What about Santa Snacks? 2020 has been a good year in spite of…
