With the country closing down for the great pandemic of 2020, we’ve lost quite a few of our favorite food and drink spots for a while. On Sullivan’s Island, we would always cap off the night with a jaunt to the island center, and grab a Frozen Irish Coffee at Hometeam Barbecue.
We decided to make our own version, tossing out many of the traditional ingredients and re-creating a refreshing frozen drink that admittedly does not resemble a typical Irish Coffee, but what the heck – we made it work, and it’s now a favorite.
Ingredients
- 6 cups of ice
- 2 cups vodka
- 1/4 cup Grand Marnier
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee grounds
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 2 cups half & half
- 2 Skor or Heath bars, more if you want to add a piece to the final drink
Making it
- Add all the ingredients into an immersion blender and mix at a high speed until the drink is smooth. Serve with a straw and 1/4 of a candy bar.
